This business will operate community wide and beyond with people and place being the heart of the core functions. This business model will enable people with the knowledge and transferable skills of reusing house hold items through repairs and upcycling. There will be a strong focus on schools, community groups and local businesses to get involved and become more environmentally friendly and economically sustainable. From experience in working in public events, schools and community organisations, it is evident that the demand for educational workshop programmes is strong and sustainable due to multiple external funding bodies that are available such as Big Lottery, Heritage Lottery and European Funding from SEUPB, Special EU Programmes Body. And despite the current Brexit process, European funding is still ongoing as commitments have been made post Brexit.
NISRA published a report on the Census of Employment (2014) stating that the largest percentage decreases were recorded in Strabane (2.3 per cent or 207 jobs). In year two we will introduce paid apprenticeships to school leavers and the unemployed providing transferable skills along with the OCN qualification. This will be a key strategic output of the business plan and will benefit the local community and economy. This will also tie in with council’s current Strategic Growth Plan 2017-2032 key outputs as shown in figure 2.
