Movement is the stuff and essence of life

Movement is the stuff and essence of life, both for individual and the society. From the independence day of August 14, 1947 up to date, Pakistani society is in transformation. The society of Pakistan was unique and dynamic with blend of different culture and ethical way of life, but no department of life – be it financial, social, religious or recreational – has been free from the impact of western culture. Western culture is playing a major role in determining the lifestyle of Pakistani people, especially among youngster. Today the sense of individuality is more important than being collectivist society. The media, social networking sites and Globalization are playing a major role in transformation of Pakistani society.
Western culture ideologies are spreading throughout the world and are having major impacts on Asian nations. People who are in their early teens and also people in age category of 20-35 are highly influenced by the media. Media is determining the lifestyle and way of thinking of people in every aspect of person life whether it is culture, fashion, religion, education, thinking etc. One major impact of western world which can be noticed in our nation is language. English language has to greater extent has replaced the use of our national language. The reason for such a spread is the transformation in our education system which is promoting western education system such as much more importance is given to O/A level education system then our national board. Another aspect of westernization in Pakistan is in fashion industry. Even though our national wear is shalwar Kameez but hardly people are seen in national wear except for the Independence Day. Moreover impact of western culture can also be notice in change in religious values. The youngster population of Pakistan is highly mesmerized by the western way of life and has forgotten the religious way of life which was once the ideology of Pakistan. Although Pakistani culture is still rule by Islamic values to greater extent but the westernization on religious values cannot go unnoticed.
To that extent, even the minute details of daily life have been affected by westernization with both positive and negative effects on Pakistan’s culture. Westernization has been part of the modernization process, which in no sense can be regarded as harmful. On the other hand, it is important to examine the West’s impact since if we are not careful, it could have a negative influence on our society, and lead to the disruption of cultural values and customs.
