Making assumptions is an important step in solving many real-world problems. Tsang (2006), contends that certain core assumptions of a theory, which are typically about people’s behaviour or thoughts need be realistic, because they determine the viability of the mechanism that generates a hypothesized relationship. by deliberating on the assumptions underpinning a theory, researchers can conduct theories with better explanatory power and further develop existing theories. in this paper, the writer will dwell on the purposes of assumptions in research, but before this, key terms are defined.
Key terms: Research, research problem, assumptions
Research is defined as the systematic process of collecting and analyzing information or data in order to increase understanding of the phenomenon about which we are concerned or interested.
