Like we discussed before

Like we discussed before, it really pays off to practice paraphrasing. When you do
research and bring that information into your essay, 90% of the time you should
not quote but paraphrase– put other’s ideas in your own words. (Of course, give
credit to the original source! More on that later when we get into our miniresearch
paper at the end of the semester.) When you restate your thesis in your
essay this semester, you are practicing paraphrasing. And that is one of the top
writing skills you can ever pick up in college. And like just about everything else
in life, it gets easier, and you get more fluent with more practice.
