Air pollution is not new and sets as far back as the 13th century, “people started complaining about coal dust and soot in the air over London, England. Since the beginning of the industrial revolution in the late 1700s, we have been changing the Earth’s atmosphere and its chemistry. Breathing polluted air puts you at a higher risk for asthma and other respiratory diseases. “When exposed to ground ozone for 6 to 7 hours, scientific evidence show that healthy people’s lung function decreased, and they suffered from respiratory inflammation. Long-term health effects from air pollution include heart disease, lung cancer, and respiratory diseases such as emphysema(tiredearth). Air pollution can also cause long-term damage to people’s nerves, brain, kidneys, liver, and other organs. Air pollutants can cause damage to crops, animals, forests, and bodies of water. It also contributes to the depletion of the ozone layer, which protects the Earth from the sun’s UV rays”(Energysage). Some of the other environmental effects of air pollution are haze, eutrophication, and global climate change. Promoting green engineering to improve sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint should be pressed in the system so it could benefit the earth’s atmosphere by deducting greenhouse gas emissions from man-made products, distributing electric transportation, and solar powered energy across the country as it helps from climate change, its renewable energy, and benefits the economy.
Deducting greenhouse gas emissions from man-made products such as factories is a major problem to the present day. Generating electricity and heat by burning fossil fuels like coal, natural gas and oil produces more greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions than any human activity(weforum). The main sources of greenhouse gases due to human activity are: burning of fossil fuels and deforestation leading to higher carbon dioxide concentrations in the air. The common phrase everyone knows is reuse, reduce and recycle, as it’s a message to help use less machinery to produce the item that is being used. Replacing light bulbs through-out your home will also contribute to reducing greenhouse gasses. Almost every news story about global warming recommends that consumers switch from incandescent light bulbs to more efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs, or CFLs. But are CFLs really that good for the environment? Incandescent light bulbs use electricity to heat a filament to a white-hot state, producing light. The mercury content inside the CFL, however, is not the only factor that should be considered when analyzing the environmental impact of a light bulb. As there are other ways to contribute to the earth’s atmosphere other than factories or even the common item in your house hold Solar powered energy is the way to go.
Solar powered energy across the country will assist the earth from climate change. Solar power is the cleanest, most reliable form of renewable energy available, and it can be used in several forms to help power your home or business producing zero emissions reducing greenhouse gas and shrink your carbon footprint. Residential solar panels are an affordable, clean and green source of energy for homes large and small. The economic advantages of solar power include: Lower electric bills. The countries that produce the most greenhouse gas would be the world’s largest economies: China, the United States and Europe (World Economic Forum). With almost five times the amount of electricity made, Germany has the number one spot on containing and using solar powered energy. Many people think solar power is expensive. It isn’t. If your electric bill is greater than $150 a month you can save money by buying your electricity from solar panels rather than the electric company.
Furthermore, distributing electric transportation through-out the globe would have a major impact on the carbon foot prints. The advantages of having an electric car is that it can reduce emissions and even save you money. Fueling with electricity offers some advantages not available in conventional internal combustion engine vehicles. Your average electric car can go approximately 100 miles per 30 kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity. Assuming that you can buy 1 kWh of electricity for $0.12, this means that you can travel about 36 miles for $1.00 according to (energsage). Maintaining an electric car, according to some estimates, will cost about one-third the current cost of maintaining a gasoline-powered car. Electric cars require considerably less maintenance than gas-driven cars. That is, until the battery begins to wear out.
In conclusion promoting green engineering to improve sustainability and reducing the carbon footprint should be pressed in the system so it could benefit the earth’s atmosphere by deducting greenhouse gas emissions from man-made products, distributing electric transportation, and solar powered energy across the country as it helps from climate change, its renewable energy, and benefits the economy.
