I would feel very much comfortable in participating and sharing my ideas in that kind of atmosphere because I can adapt to any situation or environment and enjoy working with a team. Having a confident personality helps build my personal development as well. I am outspoken and always eager to make valuable contributions to obtain the common goal. It is also a great achievement for me knowing that I was part of the team that contributed to a successful output.
Good management leadership helps to develop teamwork and the integration of an individual and group goals. It aids intrinsic motivation by emphasizing the importance of the work that people do. It is also related to motivation, interpersonal behaviour and the process of communication. If I were leading this team and a member was not participating this is the kind of leadership style I’ll portray. I would communicate with the non-participating member privately, I would not make out the person and put them on the spot because the reason of non-participation could be an issue of cultural differences, where the dominance of one culture trumps the other or the member have introvert qualities. (Schneider, S. 2003. P.235) Lack of participation in brainstorming or team meetings does mean it is unfair. Schneider, S. 2003. P.235 states “Meaningful participation does not mean that everyone has to speak the same amount. Meaningful participation means that everyone has helped move the team forward, in their own way.”
Being relatively new in an organization for me, my drive and passion is stronger, my mind is fresh and eager to show my new colleagues what I can contribute to the team and the organization. Therefore, I would have the same amount of comfort whether I was with the company six (6) months vs. ten (10) years.
