Tesco is a UK based international retail chain which provides general merchandise and groceries. Tesco is in the secondary and tertiary sector meaning they make some of their products also they provide service and sell these products. At first Tesco sold groceries but now they have expanded into more areas such as insurance, petrol and many more. The locations of the branches vary from high streets to town centres. Tesco have some stores that are called Tesco Extra which are larger supermarkets that are most likely located in high traffic areas which bring big sales, maximising profits and some stores that are called Tesco Express which are smaller supermarkets that are located in small local areas for easy access to the community. Tesco has stores from the UK to China as it has built a strong reputation for the company meaning there can be higher profits as the public is more aware of the company.
Tesco is a private business therefore the purpose of it is to make profit. Tesco specialises in food products, currently being the market share leader and on top of its competitors. Tesco tries to price their products based on the demand of the customers so they try lower the prices for essentials such as milk and bread also if something is in fashion Tesco will try buy the item and resell them, by doing both of these things it will attract more customers and bring in larger profits for the company. People can buy and sell shares meaning that Tesco is a public limited company, Tesco has limited liability meaning they can only lose the money which has been invested into the business if it goes bankrupt. An advantage is that capital can be gained easily for expansion through shares but a disadvantage is that the owner may lose some of the control even if they have shares.
Owners would be very interested in the business as they would want it to run smoothly so they can earn as much money as possible from the business so they will need to make sure they employ the right staff for the job to make sure their business is successful and brings in profit.
Tesco needs to buy resources from their suppliers to produce goods and serve the customers so they will need to have a good relationship with their supplier to make sure the resources they get are good in quality and at a good price to make sure they can be sold at reasonable prices, the cheaper they can get it the more profit is acquired and that means prices can be lowered to beat competitors’ prices. The same applies to the suppliers as they rely on the money from tesco for the goods that they supply them with.
This is an important stakeholder as they will be needed to run their day to day business so Tesco needs to make sure they work a certain amount of hours and in return they will receive a salary which will vary with the skills and qualifications an employee has.
Trade unions will be interested in Tesco as they would want to make sure that Tesco is not abusing the rights of the employees, if anything happens they will try and help the employee to resolve the issue. They will also need to make sure that the working conditions for the employees are good if they aren’t then the employees can complain which means that the trade union will have to get involved and try to resolve this issue.
Employers association will be interested as they offer assistance and advice to employers with their employees to help make sure the business is running smoothly also they promote legislation which favours the employers meaning it balances with trade unions which makes it fair for both employers and employees as they get equal resources and rights.
The government will be interested as they can earn money from Tesco by collecting taxes, if Tesco is making a lot of money that means they will have to pay more taxes meaning the government is making more money from the business. Tesco will also be helping out the local community with products and jobs.
Local community will be interested in the business because they provide staff and customers for Tesco so they will need to make sure there is a good relationship between themselves, if there is a bad relationship between Tesco and the community the people might not want to shop at the stores or people may not want to work there as they will have a bad reputation in the community.
Pressure groups are organisations that try to influence business activity to make sure they secure the interests of their members. Tesco should consider pressure groups because even though they do not have any political power they can influence people and government actions in different ways, they can create bad publicity for Tesco and hold demonstrations meaning that Tesco will get a bad image and maybe even reputation. To make sure nothing like this happens Tesco should keep the pressure groups happy as then there will be less problems to deal with and the business will run smoothly.
Stakeholders will have a lot of influence on Tesco as they would not be able to operate without some of the stakeholders, one of them being customers, if they had a bad relationship with customers and they did not have a good reputation there will not be a lot of sales meaning that Tesco would not make any profit. This shows how important one of the stakeholders are and that the business would not be able to operate without their stakeholders.
NHS (National Health Services) is a national health service in the UK which provides people in the country with healthcare. NHS is in the tertiary sector as it provides a service to the citizens. For most medical treatments residents will not be charged although most patients may only have to pay for their prescriptions. EU citizens with a European Health Insurance Card will get emergency care free of charge, that means if people come to visit England from the Eu and have a European Health Insurance Card can get free emergency care if anything happens while they’re on their visit. The NHS employ over 1 million people and have over 3,000 facilities.
NHS is a public business meaning is is ran by the government and it does not plan on making any profits. NHS specialises in providing care for people who need treatment or who have had emergency accidents. NHS will get all there money from the government, mostly from taxes to make sure it can continue to run as healthcare is free, NHS does not make much money therefore it can not depend on income from the people. NHS is a private limited company and only operates in the UK.
The owners of the NHS is the government as it is a public business therefore the owners want to make sure that the business is running smoothly and that the people are getting the care they need. The owners will also need to make sure the right people are hired for this job as skill and experience is required for this job especially for the staff that do the operations, they will have people’s life in their hands so they will need to know what they are doing.
NHS will need equipment in order to carry out operations and to treat patients so they will need someone to supply them with these goods so NHS need to make sure they have a good relationship with the suppliers in order to make sure they are receiving the right supplies and that the quality is good. The Suppliers also need to make money from the equipment that they are selling and the NHS is the one who provides the money so the relationship needs to be good on both sides.
Employees will be needed to run the the businesses day to day operations also the employees will need a lot of skill and experience to get this job as there is a lot of risks and if mistakes are made a person could get worse so the NHS are not doing their job properly if they do not hire the right people for the job.
Trade unions will want to make sure that all the employees are being treated fair and they are getting enough money for the job that they are doing, Trade Unions are the ones who are going to be helping the employees fight for their rights if they feel that something is unfair. If the employees feel that the working conditions are bad and complain, the trade union might have to step in and fight for the employees’ rights.
Employers association might be interested in this business as it is very important and they offer advice to the employers, if there are any problems they might step in to help also this balances with trade unions and makes it fair for both sides.
The government runs this business therefore they are going to be interested in this also the government fund this business as it is a public business so they need to make sure enough money is given to the NHS in order for it to carry on functioning properly. Instead of collecting taxes from this business, the government collects taxes from other business to give to this business because it does not make much money from its services as they are free.
Local community is an important part of the business as all of the local community will be going to the NHS if there are any emergencies or for their healthcare. The local community might want to train for a job in the NHS therefore the community will provide employees for the business.
Pressure groups are organisations that try to influence business activity to make sure they secure the interests of their members. Pressure groups do not have political power but they can influence the public and government so the NHS may want to maintain a good relationship with them so that both are happy and nothing happens.
Stakeholders will have a big influence on the NHS as without them NHS would not be able to operate without them, if there was no employees then no one would be able to treat the people that need treatment and more people will be dying and a lot more lives will be at risk as they will not be getting treated also without suppliers they will not be able to treat their patients and see if they are unwell and this shows how important the stakeholders are and how the NHS would not be able to function without them.
