Everyman focuses on doing good works as the only avenue into heaven

Everyman focuses on doing good works as the only avenue into heaven (Everyman).
The author of Everyman wanted to challenge the audience to do good works in order to win God’s love and acceptance. Another point of comparison is with Augustine’s Confessions. Augustine (in agreement with John Bunyan) presented himself as being absolutely empty. It is only God’s grace and mercy that gave Augustine a relationship with God. Compared to Augustine’s intimate prayers to God, Everyman’s relationship with God seems to be more distant. These two conceptions of spirituality are crucial in understanding the (Everyman). 4 This play not only show us but to speak to us not to just take advantage of just living for the moment, but to also remember that we must strive to live out the will of god in eternal life by stating, “Look well, and take good heed to the ending” (Line 11).This is also interpreted when death speak, “Ye think sin in the beginning full sweet,” and “Which in the end causeth the soul to weep” (Lines 13 ; 14).
