The Ravens!! Wow what a FANTASIC Vocal Group. I am sure all of you are familiar with

This SENSATIONSAL Pioneer Group of Rhythm & Blues.

The Ravens formed in Harlem, New York City in 1945. The idea of two waiters! Jimmy Ricks the SUPER bass and baritone Warren “Birdland” Suttles. Along with second tenor Leonard Puzey and first tenor/lead Ollie Jones (Later with the Cues), the Ravens were born.

1946 and Hub Records give us our first taste of what will be a long recording career by this Group.

From their first recording “Honey” on Hub to their outputs on King, National, Mercury, Rendition, Columbia, Okeh & Argo through 1957, we are treated to Rhythm & Blues great recordings.

What is truly remarkable about the Ravens is their leads. The Strong Bass Leads of Jimmy Ricks. The High Tenor lead of Ollie Jones’ replacement, Maithe Marshall, and the later tenor lead of Joe Van Loan. Each of these gentlemen make the Raven’s recordings Stand Outs.

This brand new 2003 release is a double CD of Ravens. You are treated to fifty (50) recordings that span the early career of the RAVENS, 1946 – 1952. I’m sure another double cd will appear with the recordings into 1957. Meanwhile look what is in store for you now.
